Re: As long as we're GOING, let's take some really KOOL stuff with us: Proposed "Liquid Mirror" Telescope for the New Moonbase
Thu, June 7, 2007 - 6:17 PMkewl teedie, tho personally i'd just focus on colonizing our own solar system and using smaller devices to probe
more clearly in the very local vacinity.
i have a love/ hate relationship with this tribe and the idea of a lunar base. For people to live there they would
have to be rotated out monthly so their muscles don't atrophy.
it makes more sense to inhabit captured asteroids in orbit around the moon than it
does to try to live there. And since the moon has a tiny atmosphere, it would also make more sense
to put a large telescope in orbit, rather than ground base it on the moon.

I don't see why they couldn't exercise instead. Luna has about 1/6 the Earth's gravity: this is _not_ "microgravity," and appropriately weighted exercise garments could provide rather serious workouts. For that matter, in the construction period, simply working to build the base would work the crew out to exhaustion. -

Sun, July 13, 2008 - 3:38 AMHave you ever done serious body sculpting?
do you know how hard it is to isolate every muscle in the body?
And you are forgetting muscles such as those of the intestine, and the heart.
just working out won't do it. You could keep a few muscles toned that way, but theres not enough time in the day to do all of them,
especially those which are involuntary.
