Re: Who else is disappointed with the CEV design?
Mon, September 4, 2006 - 10:50 AMSorry, I am not. :-)
What functions does it lack ... ? The design seems practical enough. -

Re: Who else is disappointed with the CEV design?
Mon, September 4, 2006 - 11:01 AM"Practical enough" is a matter of perspective. With this being the early 21st century, I say an SSTO craft should be available by now. Instead, space technology advances continue to slow down and -- if current trends continue -- there will never be an SSTO craft. Plus there's a good chance the CEV's lunar mission might not happen either.

Re: Who else is disappointed with the CEV design?
Sat, September 30, 2006 - 1:19 PMAlso, why do they have to call the CEV Orion? Isn't there already an Orion spaceship design on the drawing boards (though I am sure it hasn't been built)?

Re: Who else is disappointed with the CEV design?
Wed, October 4, 2006 - 2:09 PMDescribing the CEV as a joke of a spacecraft does sound accurate to me as well. But the original Orion spacecraft, as you might know, was designed to be propelled by nuclear explosives. Of course the original Orion concept -- though obviously very risky --does sound like a major improvement over current space vehicles. But the CEV with its low-tech design is highly anachronistic to me. It's like Air Force deciding to replace all their state-of-the-art jet fighters with World War I biplanes!

Re: Who else is disappointed with the CEV design?
Fri, October 6, 2006 - 4:10 PMwell, its a budget crunch; bush defunded NASA AND told them to get to mars. So all they can do is scrap together old parts with a blow torch.

Re: Who else is disappointed with the CEV design?
Sat, October 7, 2006 - 11:55 AMI think they did a little better than that with SpaceShipOne, and it cost a small fraction of what the CEV is likely to cost.
